  • Lower Your Alzheimer’s Risk by Moving!!

New news about Alzheimer's: lowering your risk!!

    cleaning

A new study indicates that normal everyday activity helps reduce the risk of Alzheimer's.

Yes, exercise is good – but so are more of the everyday activities we engage in…

Cleaning house and doing yardwork are taking on new importance. A higher level of physical activity — not just exercising — is linked to a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer's disease even in people over 80, suggests research published Wednesday in the journal Neurology.

    gardening

I'm sure this is why having a pet keeps people healthy – not only do they have something to care for, they have to feed and walk the dog and feed the cat and change the litter…all require some moving!

So get out there and garden, walk, and clean to keep your brain keeping on!!

  • Nature’s Sky Show

I woke up very early the other day and this was nature's gift for doing so!

The sky show was awesome: A spectacular sunrise complete with a plane taking off from PDX. [see video]

Nature is amazing and so filled with gorgeous colors.

The morning sky in Portland is like no other place I've lived!

    Love it!

[Well except when it's cloudy and rainy and yukky – but then I dont get up and take pictures;(]

  • Rocking on the River!

    karaoke from hell

A friend had a 60th birthday bash for her hubby and our moorage plus were invited.

A group called Karaoke From Hell played for 6 [or more hours] while we partied late into the evening…

And in case you are wondering:

    • No – we never fall in the river at parties
    • No – we don't do this kind of partying very often

The band set up on one deck and the food, liquids, chairs and tables were set up across what we call our lagoon or backyard.

We have frequent potlucks and parties in the neighborhood but this bash outdid all of those and will go down in the annals of Bridgeton lore.

Enjoy the movie:  see my neighbors, friends and moorage and rock to the music!

PS – my house can be seen at about 1:14 into the clip

  • Bottoms Up! A duck “tail”

Time for a change of pace – just as in "real" life – a blog needs some fun time too

Could not resist running for my camera today… it was like watching  synchronized swimmers..

  • My quacking alarm clock

    duck

Every neighborhood needs a town crier or a quacker for an alarm clock – doesn't it?

If you miss having one in your area, come visit ours :)

My neighbor, Doug, fed this duck once and the duck has returned every day  and quacks at Doug's house for more food.

And as Doug lives right next to me, I too am serenaded every day.

Also – the ducks are not afraid of my cat or dog [more on cat and ducks in another video]
