  • Oh Boy – Did I Forget An Important Winter Task

Totally forgot to leave water dripping last night and now have some frozen pipes. As tonight is to be much much much colder- there may be a major problem when the temps go back above freezing 🙁 [it’s called burst pipes]

How I forgot is beyond me – I’m the one that lived in cold New England areas lots of my adult life and know to do this !

Not sure if they are frozen inside or near the river – but I suspect it’s both – and they won’t defrost until it warms up and then – pipe replacement time.

So – a word of advice if it’s cold near you – and you have an arctic air mass over you – leave water dripping in sinks or showers all the time.

  • Under the Weather In Many Ways : – )

I almost never get sick but this year I had a little head cold – if there is such a medical term – and it clogged my eustachian tubes for a few days making me feel pretty yukky…

It’s all gone now but I wonder how much the aftermath of the “head cold” was the dramatic change in the weather!

We started April with warm balmy days and nights – then sort of normal Spring – then an 80 degree day where I was out in shorts and tank top in my kayak…that of course was followed by sleet and hail and then this past weekend – snow!

It did not stick here on the river, but it did stick on the higher elevations – like a few hundred feet up..

Now it’s just rainy and chilly but we are supposed to warm up by May…I should hope so.

We here in the river worried about the new goslings and the farmers worried about the fruit crops and such…

Here are some of April’s new babies…

  • Weather

It think it was Mark Twain who said about weather “wait a minute and it will change.”

Anyway – here’s to that minute – no matter where you live….

This winter is odd – not having been in Portland for many winters, I am finding that cold when you live in a floating home is COLD COLD COLD…Not only do we not have basements, we have a river running under our floors..and heat rises – so you can guess what the floors feel like. I bought tent booties for this current arctic flow – figured if a booty as made for walking around a tent and campground, it would work for a floating home….Ahhhh my feet are finally happy…..

Not sure if my feeling cold is due to age, house or what – but I felt coder this past week than when it was 25 below back East…and that was before taking wind chill into effect. But being one to deny the age factor – I am sure it’s the floor : – )

And in other parts of the USA/ and other countries, the weather has been worse than it is here – so let’s hurry that minute up so we get back to “normal” – whatever that is in these days of climate change…
